Inside Year Two of Halifax Rock Band Montgomery Night

Here we are already in February 2026. This marks our two-year anniversary as a band, and we are really starting to feel like we have come into our own, both on the stage and in the studio. Our music has been streamed every day online since we released Triggerback in October 2024, and we are pleased to welcome Gravityas our most-streamed song of all time!

As an independent band, we have been learning a lot of the behind-the-scenes work as we go on our own, and we want to shout out those who have helped us progress. This includes Ian from Shoebox Studios, who helped us record seven songs set for release later this year, and Colleen and the incredible folks at Colleen’s Pub for giving us an opportunity to strip things down and hang out acoustically once month, the folks at Gus’ Pub who are always wonderful, and of course… our good friends Nancy, Aret, Randy, & team at Montes Showbar Grill. Most importantly, we want to thank YOU. We love and appreciate each and every person in our community who continually surround and support us by coming to our shows, buying our merch, and listening to us on the daily.

No one tells you how much work is involved behind the scenes being in a band, and it is hard work. We get many people who give us tons of support, but we can’t take every win. We had a blast competing in the Surge 105.1 Battle of the Bands finals, where a huge number of you came to cheer us on; and we are thrilled to support our fellow rockers as the first place band, Vandal Eyes!

Although we didn’t win the recording contract, a new door opened for us: as Eric got down to work once more on the band manager side of things, we were awarded the "Artist Level 1" grant from Music NS, which helped us finish seven songs at Shoebox Studios in New Glasgow, working with the incredible Ian Kamp.

Reagan was also nominated for Music NS Educator of the Year and unfortunately did not take home the win, as we congratulate Avery Dakin on winning the award. We hope to see Reagan nominated again next fall, as she is a community builder, and we would love to see her recognized for her hard work.

We also thank those who nominated us for The Coast awards. Although we didn’t take home any prizes, the nominations are more than we have ever asked for.

We have a lot in store for 2026, including a few festival slots already booked and the early stages of a tour coming together. You would think with all this we wouldn’t have time to write new music, but that’s just not the case. If you caught us in January at Montes, you heard us debut our new song “Branches.” We can’t wait to show it to new ears at our upcoming gigs.

Keep an eye out online for show announcements, as we will be playing an unplugged gig every month at Colleen’s. You can also catch us March 20th at Gus’ Pub with Halifax Rock band Elliott’s Rose.

Sending a big thank you for all the support,

Montgomery Night 🌙
