Near the end of October, Eric received a surprise in the Montgomery Night Instagram inbox. Evan Wiseman from InsidethesceneHFX, an emerging media channel here in Nova Scotia, reached out to offer the band a chance to play a fundraiser show after the previous opening act had to cancel.
This marked an important opportunity for the band to support a great cause!
For those who don't know, Halifax had a dedicated all-ages music venue on the Commons Park called "The Pavilion." This venue became known as a cultural hub for live music, especially the emerging hardcore scene. Keep in mind, this was the early 2000s, and emo/alt music was thriving! Unfortunately, the Halifax Pavilion closed its doors for good in 2014, however the dedicated nonprofit board still exists, and its members work hard to fill the gap in the all-ages scene.
Funds from our last show went directly to supporting opportunities for musicians under 19, including covering costs associated with equipping a venue for live shows and hosting a massively successful battle of the bands!
As showtime approached, we were the first of four bands to perform that night, but not before Evan revealed his surprise to all the bands performing! The folks at Inside The Scene HFX went out of their way to create a flag for each act with the band's logo (yes, we got to take ours home)!Joining us were Bring Me Sleep, Sleeping Machines, and Wax Forest. The team at Inside the Scene HFX put on an amazing event and raised $1,033 to support all-ages music in Halifax, NS! With all the tables pushed to the side and bodies gathering around the dance floor at Gus' Pub, everyone can be happy that this event turned out so well!
Looking ahead to 2025, we took a Montgomery Night band "retreat" to a cottage 2 hours outside Halifax. With gear rentals and EP plans in mind, we began to record our first releases since "Trigger". Blessed with good food, great company, and a few mentors, we had the opportunity to bond, record, and ultimately unplug for a bit. We even lucked out by being able to record drums at Sea Level Sound Studio before it closes its doors. Eric says, "It was truly an honour to work with Gord. He taught me so much about how to drum for the microphones in the studio and the importance of song notes!"
With no set release date for our EP, we are keeping our wheels turning. So in 2025, expect new songs for our live set, new releases for your ears, and oh yeah, did we mention OFFICIAL MONTGOMERY NIGHT MERCH!
