Montgomery Night...Who the heck are they? Montgomery Night is a five piece-band that came together at a neighborhood venue during weekly Thursday night jam nights at Montes Showbar in Halifax, NS. (Okay, so it's technically Dartmouth!) Comprised of Reagan Mae Kuzyk, Eric Joseph, Mykola "Nick" Panchenko, Evan Jackson, and Yura Chechel, Montgomery Night brings fresh new music, reining in that old 2000's Alt Rock style, with a new twist. Bringing orchestral backgrounds and influences from newer hard rock, this band aims to have deliver a new take on that good ol' millennial angst.
Reagan, who is the principle songwriter, pianist, and lead vocalist of the group said, "I often write about what's on my heart or the experiences of those around me. I try to write music that encourages people to push through tough times and let them know they aren't alone. When I write, my lyrics are an open diary. It's very personal to me, and I want people to be able to relate to what I'm singing." Over the blaring rock music, blues rhythms, and pop serenades at the Montes Jam, it was hard to deny that this was the place to makes music and have fun. Eric had been attending the jam for about three months and was waiting for a musician interested in playing1990's-2000's Alternative Rock. Enter Reagan. That night became history as the two future band leaders improvised their way through covers of Radiohead's "Creep" and The Cranberries' hit "Zombie."
The two set out on a mission from there on to start a project. Reagan wanted a melodic yet heavy sound for her band's vision, pulling influences from bands like Red, Sleep Token, I Prevail, Bad Omens, and who could forget good old Evanescence. And so... let the auditions begin!
After also meeting Nick at the local jam nights and having jammed numerous times throughout the summer, Nick joined Montgomery Night as the lead guitarist. Evan, the band's rhythm guitarist, was an old acquaintance of Eric's, joining late January 2024. Evan's friend Victor joined in on the bass early March 2024, completing the group, and finally dialing in that sound Reagan was hoping for.
"We share a similar passion for the alternative rock music we all grew up listening to." says Eric.
Before the band heads into recording, they want to spend time writing music building their repertoire, and really digging developing meaningful lyrics with sound that is sure to cut through the noise.
Montgomery Night is performing their debut at a hub for artists, and new music in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Gus' pub which runs a new band showcase each month called Gig Night. Come check out Montgomery Night on March 25th, 2024!
